Craving for creative pain!

Creativity(noun) - The ability to create
I have talked about the Quest for an Idea before. The upsurge I spoke of is the harbinger of creativity - a wonderful state of mind. A state of mind that I find difficult to attain lately. Been quite content recently. And a contented person is not creative, I realise.

Nature used to be my favourite muse earlier. A star-studded sky, a lovely sunset or sunrise, ripples of water, waves crashing on rocks, running over on the beach. It used to give me such a high. Whenever I was at my best, I know I was inspired by atleast one of these.

Pain is a stimulant
If being in a state of bliss is a stimulant, then so is its opposite. I cannot claim to have felt unbearable pain. But a longing, craving for things beyond your reach does come with some pain. And it brings out another side of you. A side you never knew existed. Words flow out, weave into sentences, into Haikus, into poems. Emotions start emanating out from the words and every time you re-visit those words, the feelings are back from where they came out. It is like magic.
Oh! Pain is such a stimulant that once you have tasted it, you get addicted to it. Even when nothing is wrong, you wish to wallow yourself in self-pity. Into melancholy, to feel those things that stimulate some senses inside you. You are now the masochist!

Yeah, pain can help in creativity and thats what I have found out painfully.
But I am not sure if its necessary and sufficient. Sometimes creativity just arises out of randomness or necessity.
But an interesting question to ponder still.

I think pain gives rise to for lack of a better word negative creativity. Anything created in this state would be vibrant/explosive and at the other end of the spectrum dark/gloomy. Being content on the other hand, your (+ve) creative side would most probably produce something soothing, flowing...zen like maybe???? Point being, you need both...just at different times.

hmmm...I see a blog post in the making

@milieu: "found out painfully"! He he. True.
It is just like 2 extremes of emotions. Sometimes pain makes you see things clearly. Yes point to ponder!

@cerebralmatter:
I'm in agreement with your analysis here. Like I said, seen in an abstract way they are just extremities of emotions, bliss & pain.
I guess we do need both, lets hope more of happiness than pain ;).
Eager to see you blog post in the making :)
